Are Clergy and Clark the same tartan?

Are the Clergy tartan and the Clark tartan one and the same? I have seen some swatches and they appear different to my eye, but folks seem to speak as if these are the exact same tartan. I can't seem to find any reliable information about Clan Clark and some tartan finders show several different swatches for both tartans. Can someone shed some light on this? Anyone know any history of these two tartans?

I believe I have seen a couple of variations of the Clergy tartan. The main one (?) is Clark though. I've often wondered why Clark is assosiate with Clergy myself.

Wow! Thanks for that! What an interesting read. I actually have two kilts in two different Clergy tartans- I have a Sport Kilt in the Clergy ancient, and a USAK in the Clergy modern. I've been a bit curious where the two patterns came from.

Nighthawk, do you see a big difference in the patterns? I have a Clergy from Sport Kilt, and it is pretty similar to a tank from Scotland which I have in the same tartan. I didn't think that SK did different shades like Ancient.

The one I have from the Frugal Corner, on the other hand, is very bright in fluorescent light.

"The official Clergy Ancient tartan!" From SK's website. Yes, it's different. The one I have from USAK is the same as the one from Frugal corner... only not nearly as neon.
