My second attempt at kilt-making: X-Kilt
As promised, here I show the X-Kilt that I made based on Alan H's X-kilt manual. Thank you Alan H!
The fabric is just under 4 yds and made of polyester/cotton blend. It has a simple plaid pattern on it.
A closeup picture of the top band and belt loop.
You can also see the plaid design on the fabric (which I did not factor into the pleating) but I tried to align them as much as I could.
A closeup of the cargo pocket.

Question:
What are your thoughts on the width of the apron, is it too wide for an Xkilt?
(It's a little above 10". I've a 37" waist; 41" rump.)
EDIT: A request for advice.
I have a problem with the lower left side of the apron (on my left leg). It keeps wanting to curl up. I've already attempted to extend its A-shaping. That helped a bit, but still not enough. And I'm already going beyond the inch and half recommended A shape offset away from the "rectangle." Any advice?
THanks.

That looks excellent. I can't really tell from the pic, but did you machine sew the waistband on both sides?
As for the apron, I think it looks perfect, but I like the apron a little wider.

Thanks! I did machine sew once through 1 waistband the layer and then once more through all the layers of the waist band and kilt.
--I sewed one side first (one layer of the waistband strip) right side facing the outside of the kilt. Folded that over snugly to form the waistband and then sewed through all layers. In Barb's book, you handsew the final layer (that one in the inside of the kilt) so that no stitches show up on the outside.

Well done sir! I too like the apron the way you have created it.
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

I agree, the apron looks great. I put an 11" on my last x-kilt and it's still not as wide as the traditional I started on, (15" up top.)
Edit: I forgot to mention. I've found that messing with the big pleat can help get that left edge down. Try ironing it much further than it actually needs to be and it should still hang correctly.

Man, I wish I had some kind of talent... I can't even effectively press my own kilts, let alone make one! That thing looks great!

Yeah, I've been trying to move the crease further in to the big pleat...
