    "The Avengers" in Kilts

I finally got around to watching the VHS tapes (yes, you read that right ) I have of the original episodes from the old British TV series "The Avengers," of which I was a big fan.

You can imagine my surprise when one of the episodes from the 1964 season (the first?) was about a Highland regiment based outside London. Some of the actors were kilted for the entire episode! And the theme would be of great interest for the Scots and Scots-minded among you.

One point which surprised me was that the actors wore their military style kiltpins (the diaper pin style ones) really high. They were almost at the top of the thigh, just below the hip, right in the middle of the apron.

Is this the traditional way for Scottish soldiers to wear it?

Was the episode Esprit De Corps ?

I have it listed in my book on The Avengers. 1964 would be the last season with Honor Blackman as Cathy Gale, the incomparible Diana Rigg took over as Emma Peel the following year as Steed's partner.

Yes, it was that episode, Jamie! I had never seen Honor Blackman before in the series, since the American airings started with Diana Rigg already in the cast.

Incidentally, I did get to see her on Broadway where she was supposedly naked on stage. She was, though, clearly wearing a flesh-colored body suit.

Thanks for the link to that episode where Steed was kilted! He never wore one in the earlier episode I just saw.

Any comments on what I mentioned as to how they wore their kilt pins? Now I'm really curious about that.
