First Real Public Outing in the Kilt
I've worn my kilt to a local (Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas) kilt night. I've worn it to a Celtic heritage festival, and to a bar after the festival. But I've never truly worn the kilt out in a public place.
My wife and I had tea this afternoon, and I put the kilt on because Cynthia loves the kilt! We had plans to go visit my mom for dinner at her place, and instead of changing into jeans, I wore the kilt.
After dinner and a visit, Cynthia and I realized we needed to get some stuff from the store. A public grocery store. And I was in the kilt.
I will admit it: when I saw a pretty full parking lot, I was a little nervous. But I told myself I'd do it and do it with confidence.
The first stop was the produce section. It was full of women. There was a time I would have been shy even in jeans, but I've found that the kilt makes me stand a little taller (and I'm somewhat tall to begin with). I've been told by people I respect that I look good in my kilt. So through the produce section for the things we needed we went.
Through the rest of the store for things we needed we went.
We ended up at the far end of the store, and to get to the checkout line we were headed for meant walking the length of the front of the store where a fair amount of people were gathered.
I wasn't nervous. From the moment I got out of the car and walked into the store with Cynthia, I walked with confidence.
I was bummed that we didn't have more errands to run tonight!
I definitely look forward to the next true public outing in the kilt.
You just can't help but feel confident wearing the thing

You did great! I'm glad you did it and even wanted to keep running errands (shame we didn't really have any other errands to run! ).
Interesting that you really didn't get a lot of looks, just the occasional person lost in thought with things to do glancing and getting a "oh, that's a kilt... huh" look, and going back to shopping. The only person who approached you and started talking to you was someone you'd met elsewhere that wanted to say hi.
As I've said elsewhere, we should definitely get you more casual stuff (really need to take in your kilt or get you another one since you've lost so much weight) and let you go to the movies and other places like that
Thanks for wearing the kilt for me!

No problem--anytime!
I was wearing it for me, too.
I definitely need to get some more casual accessories.
And some more kilts!

There was a time I was so shy, just walking past people in stores made me feel self conscious.
That's a long-gone thing of the past, now.

Yep, I'm very lucky to have Cynthia's support!
If it were up to her, I'd be in the kilt everyday
When I got the kilt, I figured--at best--I might wear it to a bar or a Celtic festival. I mainly got it for just around the apartment because I always wanted one, and I knew Cynthia loved kilts.
But that's changing.
I need a few more kilts, but right now I'm losing weight and will probably only get one more (and take the current one in), until the weight gets down to where it's going to stay.
Thanks for the reply,
Christopher
