Making Parole
Today marked another milestone in my kilting life One that many of you have experienced yourself, but it was a first for me. You see, I woke up this morning with a migraine and decided NOT to don the kilt. I even had it all laid out last night so it was easy to strap on this morning, but I just didn't feel like wearing it... (I know... Sacrilege!)
So, after an hour or so of being awake the beast in me forces me to our local convenience store for its daily fix of caffeine. As I was standing at the counter putting the lid on my drink and my wife's coffee a gentleman approaches and asks "Are you not playing today?" Now as I have stated, I have not yet had my caffeine, so this question confuses me for a moment. The gentleman mistaking my confusion reminds me that I see him every morning, but normally he is wearing a police officers uniform. Now I recognize him and I let him know that I am confused by his question, he again states "My buddies and I see you in here all the time in the kilt and we assume that your playing your bagpipes quite a bit." Now I get to smile and let him know that I do not play the pipes, I just enjoy wearing the kilt.
Now it is his turn to be confused.... After pondering my response for a bit, he asks the long awaited for question.... "WHY??!!"
To which (thanks to many months of reading this forum) I am able to respond..... (wait for it)
.
.
.
.
.
"You're a police office, so you should be able to understand this. After 45 years of confinement, my boys have finally made parole!"
.
.
.
His face turns about 10 shades of red, he sputters and spits and then finally a huge smile crosses his face. As he turns to leave he says "That is so wrong..... FUNNY, but wrong!"
So, now I have become recognized when not wearing the kilt when folks have come to expect it. What a great day!
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Yes, people get used to seeing us in kilts and are surprised when they catch us in trousers. Best of luck on the migraine. I've got one today too, but I take them much less severe and less frequently than I did when I was younger.

I hope the migraine passes quickly. Those things are awful. I'm really glad I haven't gotten one in about 2 years.
It's a pretty neat thing when people get used to seeing you kilted and are surprised when you're not.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

I had severe migraine until about 1979 when I had one I called the 45 caliber solution headache. I actually considered blowing my brains out for relief but I had a new puppy I had picked out of the trash and she needed me. The next day I went to my family doctor (that was back in the days when I could afford health care) and he put my on a drug called Enderal (Propranalol) and I haven't had one since. I used to have them every few months and coupled with having a Gout attack every 8 months or so it was only a matter of time that I would have both at the same time but that only happened once. That was 30 years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. I still have trouble with my ankles and I assume since I was diagnosed with gout it is the reason but no migraines thanks to my pill pusher.
By the way, the Doc had the same problems I had. Hypertension, gout and migraines and propranalol worked for him as well.
