    Another newbie

Just thought I'd say hello. I was at the Harpenden Highland Gathering on Sunday 13th July as part of the Scottish Piping Society of London group, (we organise and judge the piping competition).

I saw a bunch of guys around a carved X Marks the Scot wooden sign, but hadn't a clue what it meant. Later on, I googled "Harpenden" and got a link to this site, (where I saw some great pics), and I gathered what the X Marks the Scot sign was all about.

I made my own kilt and piper's plaid last year from high quality 18oz army surplus MacKenzie Seaforth tartan. I really took my time, and the results turned out better than I expected. I intend to do something in 16oz later this year when I find the time. I'll be putting my own photos of Harpenden online at the SPSL website (www.scottishpipingsocietyoflondon.com) when I find the time.

Oh, I was born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland, but have lived just outside of London, England, since 1995. I may be a stranger to this forum, but I am no stranger to the kilt, having worn them since the 1970's.

to the rabble! Hope you enjoy your time here.
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear
