    a $26 kilt?

Something interesting in the Want Ads for the Asheville Citizen-Times: a poly-rayon kilt for $US25.98. If this link doesn't work, search for kilt.

Garish color, probably thin and flyaway, but for $26 (plus s/h) it will probably work for cleaning out the garage.

Yeah, I saw those before. Not my kind of thing, but some people like them. You find some threads out there like this one http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/k...light=Hottopic if you're interested.

So, is it the fact that the guy in the picture is not wearing socks/hose, or just that his legs are too scrawny for the boots to close around that makes it look so weird?

BTW- interesting looking kilt, the zipper on the front is kind of odd to my eyes though. The snaps and things don't seem that much out of place after seeing the Utilikilt designs, but the zipper just stands out....

My wife and I saw a guy wearing one of those “things” on St. Patrick’s Day this year at the Flogging Molly concert. All we could do was laugh at the poor guy because it looked so silly. I bet he thought that he looked cool in his outfit, but actually I felt bad him. There has to be something better looking out there than that beach towel on acid. In my opinion, please put your $26 in the bank and save up for the real thing.

Better is such a subjective word. No reason to feel bad for someone, as I'm sure we've all had our "look" that we thought was cool, but someone else didn't. Hell, being an 80s child, it was guaranteed for me. I look back at old pictures and wonder what I was thinking. Instead of laughing and ridiculing, though, why not go up and introduce him to the site or suggest alternative places for him to get more kilts. He might not know where to get another $50 kilt and can't afford anything more.

I just need to look over wedding/graduation photos from the 70's. Remember the frilly shirts and powder blue Tux's and the long hair and sideburns.... We thought they were cool, and some would say they still are. Styles change. I look around today and see lots of tattoos, piercings and shaved heads (all of which I think are pretty cool on some folks), and I wonder if we will look back on today the same way.

I'm glad that guy was in a kilt. Maybe one day he'll buy another one and....

Hmm. Well, I clicked on the link to see what all the commotion was all about... Ugly? I dunno. What makes it so ugly? Aesthetics are so relative -- is it the "tartan" that's ugly? If so, I've seen some pretty hideous tartans out there, much more so than this. Is it what it's made out of? Not being able to see the product other than in a photo makes it hard to tell.

The only thing that I can really say looks REALLY odd is that it's way too long... It looks more like a skirt than a kilt when it comes halfway down the calf. But something like that is adjustable with a good seamstress.

Is it or is it not a kilt? Yeah, I'm sure that 's a huge can of worms... But when I look at it, it seems to fall much more in the "kilt" category than the Swedish Blaklader "work kilt." For pity sakes, it's not even pleated!
