Where To Buy Traditional Scottish Outfit

    Hi
I'm going to buy a traditional Scottish outfit( kilt, PC jacket, fly plaid, the shoes and the whole package) and I was wondering what is the best shop to buy that from? I'm kinda thinking of http://www.scotweb.co.uk/ but thats really the only thing I've found. I want the kilt to be 100% wool, I thougt that if I was going to buy this, it would be the best just the buy the real thing and the rest aswell, the jacket wool also and the plaid. It just doesn't have the same feeling wearing a PV kilt perhaps, it looks alike wool and I dont think that my friends or family can see the difference but I know better, I know it's not the real thing. And also the sporran. I bought a sporran in Edinburgh in a typical tourist shop. The strap chain is all rusty and the leather is very bad (Pakistani made probably). If you know a place witch sells an authentic Scottish outfit, please let me know they're website.

P.S: I'm thinking of this as a formal wear( I will buy a PV kilt for everyday use aswell and I already found that)

    Thanks in advance, Gunnar

I think those folks at that link are fine. I understand what you mean about getting all woll and so on. There will be a few more options posted from other people, I'm sure. Good luck.

I know others will disagree, but you could save yourself more than a few pennies if you went without the fly plaid. They are rarely worn these days.

True, but then if you buy the fabric and fringe it, it will cost somewhat less. I did, and not only fringed it, but purled and knotted it too. Very time consuming, but then I was going through the therapy following cancer surgery and felt absolutely lousy. Gave me something to do to keep from going stark staring bonkers! As an interesting aside, my wife wears it as a shawl on dressy occasions, I only wear it at full formal ones, so it does get get used quite a bit.

I got my full dress starter kit (Argyll, vest, tank in my family tartan, hose, ghillies, flashes, belt, and all the clan accessories, plus a balmoral and fly plaid) from JHiggins in Kansas. I felt like with that much expensive stuff there was a high likelihood of getting dinged big time with customs fees if I ordered it all at once from anywhere in Scotland. But if I were going to order it from Scotland, I would definitely order it from Scotweb-----fair prices for high quality goods, and phenomenal service and accessibility, not to mention the 10% (give or take) discount you get by accessing their site through the advert top right of this page.

Sadly I have no sources which are closer to you than Scotland, but I'm sure the rabble will be at least a little helpful.

Check also some old threads, and I'm sure you'll find something right!

Let us know what you end up with!

Geez, sorry, guy. I didn't notice that you were from like ICELAND. I think I would definitely recommend getting at least a 16oz tartan for a place like that.

I have only just noticed that you live in Iceland, sorry. I don't suppose for one minute that you have many kilt suppliers there! I have not ever bought online, but there are many members that do and time and again the same names pop up as being reliable and time and again, sadly, there are one or two other names that do not seem too reliable. You could always fly over to see Scotland for a wee while and get yourself measured up for your kilt and accessories at the same time. I know that there used to be flights from Iceland to Inverness, Aberdeen or Glasgow.
