My "HotWheels" Kilt - FINALLY FINISHED!!!!
It's finished! Scroll down for the pictures
Here's the "almost finished" pics of my "HotWheels" Kilt I'm sewing (by hand.....no machine for me to use).
It has 7 pleats int the "X-Kilt" fashion but unlike the white one I made, the pleats come together at the waist. Whip-stitching them is a pain in the butt and right now, they look like crap (IMO) but I will go over them again to clean them up. I'll get that done sometime this week end. Also, I did not sew in these pleats this time.
I made the inner and outer aprons double-thick (2 layers) because the material is kind of thin - and since the material's selvedge is a white border, I cut that off and folded over the material to make a hem...and then used that iron-on seam tape to seal the edge.
All that I have to do is cut out and sew on the waistband along the top edge and sew the aprons down (where they meet the pleats).
Thoughts?

I think that's going to be one eye-catching kilt!

That should turn a few heads first time you step out in it .

That will give the "Panache Pink" a run for its money.I just hope I never see both of them together without at least a good pair of sunglasses, and more probably a welding mask!!

LOL...thanks. I liked the printing on it and WalMart has a few other - "odd" - prints I'm thinking of...lol.
I'm not that much of a fan of how the pleats wrap around the front on a standard "X-Kilt" so I tend to stop at my hips (or the closest point to them) to customize it for me.
I'm debating making a matching sporran for it - unsure yet.

That's really cool! I think it would look especially cool as the reveal on a black kilt (but I think that's been done, although the flames were red on that one-I don't have a link, sorry). You should check out the Pink Panache thread (if you haven't already):

I think that is certainly an eye catcher. One thing I don't care for is the stitching so visible at the fell. To my eye, just stands out too much and doesn't give a good look. Other than that, WOW.
