What options for getting fabric.
Question:
If one wanted to get an IoS tartan, for example, what are the options for obtaining it?
-eBay? (any experience?)
-direct from Scotland? which ones to go to (online)
-any fabric store in the US that may carry these?
What would be the price? (I see them run around $70-$80/yd for worsted wool, is there anything that's less expensive but still high quality?)
Do they have IoS in PV, perhaps?
Kindly point me to a thread on here that perhaps already has talked about this question. Thoughts? Advice?
Thanks!

IoS is a copyrighted tartan so legal production will be limited by contracts with the mill. That means you're not likely to find it at any fabric stores. You may find some being sold on eBay - I have had good luck purchasing other kilt fabrics produced by House of Edgar there. Your other option will be contacting one of the many kilt shops and kilt makers that routinely order material from the mills. I suspect many of the kilt makers and kilt shops that are XMarkers can order fabric for you.
I suspect someone who knows more will chime in with even better information for you.
Cheers!

IoS is sold by Lochcarron and Marton Mills. If you want it to make a kilt yourself you will likely have to pay retail. Try Scotweb, and XMTS advertiser, who gives a 10% X-marks discount.
If you are having a kilt made for you, the kiltmaker (e.g., Kathy Lare or Barb T) should be able to get a discounted price, I think around 60% of retail. If you want extra cloth he/she may be able to order it at the same time and pass along the savings. I have had some success doing that.

Unless you just want to make it yourself, my suggestion would be to go to Woollenmill Co. and buy a 6 yd. hand made wool kilt in "Isle of Skye" from them. Several of us have done this and are pleased. Cost $240.00 on your door step. Don't think you can make it for that.
