Kilts in a courthouse?

Have any of you worn a kilt into a courthouse? I just got a summons for jury duty, and if I'm gonna have to sit for hours I want to be comfortable. The dress code says no blue jeans and no shorts, and I have to wear a collared shirt... A kilt is not shorts or blue jeans...

Have any of you been kilted in a similar situation? Would I be asking for trouble by showing up in a kilt?

Call and ask. Otherwise, go at your own risk. If you want off the jury that may be the way.

Have worn kilts to court as a visitor at a hearing and to testify at a hearing. When called for jury duty wore pants. Did not want to distract from the matter at hand.

I was called for jury duty just a few weeks ago [in Texas]. I wore jeans for voir dire, but after I was selected and given the dress requirements, I asked whether a kilt would be acceptable. They told me no, that it was equivalent to wearing shorts.

I have worn kilts in state and federal court rooms and no one said a word - and I didn't bother to ask ahead of time. It's not violating any laws so I would think it would be fine without asking.

Would seem much like an Indian woman showing up in a sari or an African gentleman showing up in a dashiki.

If the courts won't honor diversity, who will?

Having sat through a jury selection or two from the other side, I think that it may increase your odds of being dismissed, but I'd sure love to see someone do it.

The way I see it, the kilt is acceptable for everything from casual to white tie events. If it's good enough to go to a White House ball in, then it certainly be good enough for jury duty. I've done everything kilted for a couple years now, and no one (court or otherwise) has said anything. At least not in a professional setting.
