Knuckleheads
I don't know if it's appropriate for these forums, but I've got something I just have to share, and as this is the Off-Topic area, I thought I'd give it a try.
Arrested someone this morning on an outstanding warrant for Violation of Probation. We're transporting him to the magistrates office to have a bond set before he goes to jail, and we're reading the violations to him listed on the warrant. One of the main reasons his probation is being violated, is that he has pending charges for Strong Armed Robbery, which he has already been arrested on, and released on bail.
When asked about the Strong Armed Robbery, he states, and I quote.."Aww man, that charge is bogus....my cousin went and swore out a statement against me for that warrant, cause he didn't want to pay me the $200 he owes me for 'weed'..."
::Blink::
My partner and I look at each other, somewhat in disbelief. Surely he didn't just say that in front of the two of us, while he's already in handcuffs....
But sure enough, he goes on to state that he's just being honest, that's the whole reason his cousin's mad at him, he owes him $200 for 'weed', and he had cut him off and told him he couldn't have any more until he came up with the $200 he owed him already.
I hope the Narc boys have fun serving that search warrant
Casey

I had a police officer friend of mine say once - "Ya know, its a good thing most criminals have a sixth grade education..."
too true, too true.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I once had a woman flag me and my partner down and tell us "I just gave that guy twenty bucks, and now he won't give me my crack!"
I'm still not sure what she expected us to do about it....

Casey, with all due respect for the work done by LEO's, do you see why I politely refuse to talk to them without an attorney present?
The guy was very likely telling you the truth about his cousin, and in so doing, he managed to incriminate himself. And you and I both know if it ever goes to court, his attorney can't ask you if his client really, in fact, mentioned the dope to you. We both know the prosecutor will object on the grounds that whatever you heard is hearsay.
A fish will never get in trouble, if it remembers to keep its mouth shut. And look at all the people currently sitting as guests of their local, state or federal government, just because they were trying to strike up conversation.
I really do tip my hat to LEO's. You get to spend most of your time dealing with people that are having really rotten days and that surely has to get old.

My Dad used to be an investigator for the Mass. Public Defenders. He always told me that if you just let people talk they will eventually tell you what you need to know. The other thing he always said is that human nature hasn't changed in a long, long time.
I see that he's still correct.
A nod of the hat to all the policemen and firemen on Xmarks.
To paraphrase, "I sleep peacefully in bed at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would harm us."

I'll add to that, not only a tip of the hat, but a sweeping, formal bow in addition! You guys do a wonderful job!
