    StillWater Kilts?

    Hey everyone,

I am looking at buying a new kilt! I love the feel of wool and personally I don't think anything can replace wool, but I am a traditionalist. (I also have never seen an acrylic or P/V kilt) Right now though, I do want a kilt that I am not going to get as upset with if I spill a drink on or something worse, I really hate dinner dates in a $400+ kilt! Now, I have been looking at the Still Water's and like what I see!!

My question is, how do they really hold up, feel, etc? Any help would greatly be appreciatted!!

By using the "search" feature, you should find no end of SWK reviews.

I have a StillWater wool kilt. I like it for the price I paid for it.

It is not a traditional kilt, but it kind of has that look to it. The pleats have sewn down at the fell; that's a good thing. The fabric is not cut away between the top and fell; that makes it bulky around the waist or belt area. There's other things good and bad about it...

I think about it a little like an off the rack wool sport jacket that's fine for the price, but not a hand crafted garment.

I also have an acrylic standard StillWater. It's a very light weight kilt. I don't compare the two, other than it is built in the same way as the wool kilt. The fabric is soft and fluffy kind of like some acrylic sweaters.

    Hope that helps.

The customer service is better than any I recieved. Earlier today I ordered a SWK Nightstalker Standard (acrylic) kilt, and then abruptly realized I put it on the wrong credit card. If it had gone through, this would have been a huge issue, but within an HOUR of me sending an e-mail explaining the situation, Jerry had e-mailed me back. He immediately rectified the issue and even gave me a handy link to click to finish the new order from the credit card screen onward.

As far as the kilts, I only have one of their incredibly inexpensive "thrifty" models, and to tell you the truth if the pleats were sewn down and it had belt loops, I'd prefer it to my much more expensive SportKilt.

I've got one of their standards on the way and it's almost assured that my first wool kilt will be from them. They're fantastic.

I have 3 acrylic and one wool from SWK. Truth is, I will never buy another acrylic. It's like wearing a fleece blanket all day. It doesn't breathe well and my legs end up really sweaty. On the other hand, I adore my wool kilt. As Ted said, it ain't a fine hand tailored garment, but it sure is warm, comfortable, and good looking. I will be buying their saffron when I manage to get the cash together. You hear the saying "You get what you pay for." With SWK, you get that, and much more. I personally think the SWK heavies are a killer value and you can't go wrong with them, especially for the price.

In answer to the question of how they hold up- that's part of the reason I won't get another acrylic. They're a very loose weave, I have cats, and they snag on everything!! The material also pills like crazy. My wool, on the other hand, is 14 months old and looks as good now as it did the day I got it.

Oh, and by the way- WELCOME!!

I have a Stillwagter heavyweight. For me, it is great for winter and a little warm for summer As far as how it wears, it's wool so that should be fine. For the most part, I haven't gotten anything on either kilt I have that has done any damage at all. My lightweight, 11oz, wool kilt I've had for about 5 years.

I got my first wool swk heavyweight last week, so i can't tell you how it will hold up, but it is a heavy wool kilt that looks and feels amazing for the price! I would recomend these to anyone who wants a nice wool kilt that will keep you warm and not have $400-$600 to spend. I will def. be ordering at least 2 more heavyweights from swk in the future.

I'm new to kilts, but my first was a SWK standard (Irish Nat'l, hence the avatar). Love it! I find the PV material to be very comfortable, but I live in the Northern California coastal area where humidity is not an issue. Since it's new and I'm a newbie, I can't comment on its durability--but it seems to be very well made. You can't beat the price, and like others have said, the customer service is terrific. If they had more tartan choices, I'd probably have a couple of SWK standards by now...

We just bought a youth SWK for our 4 year old and it is just great. I'll definitely buy my next one from them.
