One week of good kilted vibes

Nothing out of theordinary has happened lately, no pharmacy bully boy (nor his buddy), no ANG guys asking about my balmoral either.

But I've had a few good things happen, good since I live in a fairly small town across the river from a large metropolitan area, and these kind of small towns are breeding ground for types such as the dudes and pharmacy boy.

    Anyway, without further ado:

Friday: Black Watch, short socks, working boots, 'My nuts are bigger than yours' t-shirt, I went to clothing store and HOT girl in her mid 20s was staring as I walked closer and closer. So I stop right in front of her and simply told her "It's a kilt', she replied 'I know, never seen one in person and they are cooler than I thought'. Hot girl kept watching as I walked away (at the pleats I pressume).

Saturday morning: Black Stewart, same casual shoes and random polo shirt, went to the Post Office and one of the postmen asked me where did I get my kilt, told him about SWK, and then he told me about the guy who wanted to have kilts as part of their uniform, and how he likes them and this and that. Contact info was exchanged.

Saturday afternoon: same outfit as in the morning, went to the store and the home depot. Plenty of mostly curious looks, and a couple female attendants that usually see me shop kilted finally asked me the question. Let's just say they 'checked me out' near the fitting room. At home depot I got a 10% discount when the cashier guy told me his uncle pipes for the local Fire Dept. COOL!

Today: DIY slate wool kilt, nice checkered shirt with tie, went to Subway for lunch and I noticed there was a construction crew truck parked outside, and low and behold, I could see 3 construction worker types already looking at me through the glass wall as I walked in, I thought 'here we go with the comments', as I open the door the damn bell sounds so they make the point to all turn and look at me. So, I look back as I walk past them and keep looking, you know the 'yeah, got a problem?' look. To this one of the guys simply nods, I nod back and go on to order my sandwich. 2 good looking girls took my order, all smiles about the kilt and not a word from the workers as they kept talking about their day. Got my order and left. All's good!

The more you guys wear your kilts (I've been a daily wearer for 2-3 months now) the more your 'naturalness' will be while wearing them, and the easier it gets to confront/face starers. Matter of fact, it's getting to be less and less. Partly because i'm becoming a familiar sight, partly because I dont stand out by being uncomfortable.

You are exactly right. The less uncomfortable you look, the less people care. For me, it was the hottie redhead in the liquor store Saturday when I bought my Nelson's Blood. Mmmmm.... Nelson's Blood...

You are absolutely correct. Your demeanor when you wear the kilt sets up how people will react to you.

I absolutely agree. I wear the kilt most of the time when not at work, and have found that a confident stride will ward off most negative comments. Not all, just most. And the negative comments made will usually be furtive and deserve no response.

Excellant! I agree that confidence is the key. I hardly ever get negative comments, lots of positives (mostly female). I guess some of my outfits don't look too Nancy either (black UK workmans, black combat boots, and Triumph Motorcycles garage shirt is a well loved look....). wear it with pride!

I wish I could get away with wearing kilts full time, but in the area i live (bible belt country) i would risk a beating if i did. I wish I still lived In Toronto nobody batts an eye there, although my parents don't understand it.

Wear it. Follow your heart, not the crowd. I live in North Ga which is considerd part of the bible belt and never had any problems from anyone.

By the way, pepper spray makes a nice addition to ones sporran.
