New DIY Lindsay tartan six-yard

This is the kilt I've been yammering about in the DIY forum. I made this out of 11 ounce poly/wool from Fraser and Kirkbright that I bought for the X-Skirt project. The F-H.C.A.G. has a skirt in the same tartan....so do two of the beer goddesses, and the fiddle player in my band. This was the leftovers. I had to hem the kilt, since the pieces with selvedged edges went into the X-skirts. The pleats (25 of them) are topstitched. There's an 8-inch wide bit of interfacing (instead of hair canvas) inside the over-apron for structural support. I made "belt loops" instead of "sporran loops". The over-apron is fastened with a single buckle, and the under-apron is anchored by a 2-inch bit of velcro. It's pleated to stripe, a *very* subtle dark purple/blue double-stripe inside the prevailing dark, wide, green stripe.

The kilt is a bit light-weight, but it looks pretty good, I think. I love the dark, wine-colors of the Lindsay tartan. This will be a good summertime kilt for work and out-and-about.

That looks really nice Alan. Well done! I really like that tartan as well...man my list seems to get a bit bigger every day.

Let's see....I have material for:

1 kilt, 4-yard PV for my cousin
1 kilt, 4-yard PV for an X-marks friend

...these need to be done by Christmas..

FINALLY going to get around to hand-doing my Gray Stewart 6-yard, which I will pleat to sett. I've had this material for almost 16 months.

And then, the Ultimate, Killer-Diller Tank....the 8 meter Ancient MacNaughton, 13 ounce tank.

After that, probably next spring, I'll make the X Marks tartan polyester-viscose 6-yard.

And then I'm done with kilt-making for a good, long time, though I DO have material for a digital desert camo X-Kilt. Hmm. NO.. I think I'll make a sporran after than, and then try a sgian dubh.
