    white cockade

My goodwife is knitting me a blue bonnet. I want to add a white cockade or rosette.

Anyone know where I can get one?

    Glen,

Thank you for the link. It's a bit big though isn't it? I really don't know...?

And I'm also wondering if it would be appropriate to wear a French cockade on a bonnet...although, now that I think about it, what with Tearlach's connections to France and all, it might be the very thing.

Still I am having a hard time imagining a 4.5" cockade on a blue bonnet.

Just a minor point of clarification: a white cockade on a Scots bonnet does not signify loyalty to France, but rather loyalty to the exiled Stuarts. The white cockade was a Jacobite symbol as well as being worn by French troops, including a number of Scots who served with the French Army.

    Regards,

    Todd

I understand. The cockade that Glen linked to was being sold as "French, White Loyalist." I mentioned Prince Charlie's ties to the French royal family thinking that because of that association, if there wasn't something cross-cultural going on there, it was still the Jacobite white.

Thanks for the clarification however. Anyone who cares to link to the cockade that Glen referenced and wants to comment on its suitability for use on a Scots blue bonnet, either in the 4.5" or the 3" size, I would appreciate whatever information you can give me.

In the Irish rebellion of 1798, the French handed out green cockades to be worn by the rebels. And people wonder why the English and the French don't like eachother? Actually, the French army were led by Napper Tandy, who they had commissioned as a general, and all they did was hand out green cockades and then retreat, LOL!

    You can also look here.

    http://www.tartanweb.com/shop/highla...e_cockade.html

Or you can buy some white grosgrain and make one. Either form a saltire with two loops of ribbon and tack the center or take a stitch through the center and bunch it up. (you can read instructions in So You're Going To Wear the Kilt for the last one.

I've made several myself. I even special ordered some 3" white grosgrain for the purpose, but a 1 1/2" or smaller works fine for the saltire type.

You can see one of my own in the photo above or, for a better look try this and scrool down for the close up: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/w...ht=winter+hats
