Kilted Vacation to Historic York
Originally due to go north Scotland, the coach company cancelled and we had to choose an alternative. Glad we did choose York, really enjoyed it and here's some pics.
Got off to a damp start. Here I am standing in front of Clifford's Tower, what remains of York Castle.
To beat the showers, we took a look around the Treasurer's House & Gardens. A lovely property managed by the English National Trust. Situated just behind the Minster. Frank Green purchased the decaying property in 1897, remodelled it by 1930. He was one of only a few pioneering collectors of antique furniture in the 19th century. Here I am in the gardens and on the steps of the house.
After an enjoyable visit, the weather perked up and a visit to the Minster then ensued.
First visit to the River Ouse
Then it was time for a drink in the Guy Fawkes pub just beside the minster. It was then my friends told me that as I was taking photos of the minster, people were taking photos of me. Oh I love the fame !

Our 3rd ay included a trip to nearby Knaresborough & Harrogate. Really nice. Now back at the hotel, time for dinner.
A closer look at my new kilt pin which I purchased in Gretna on the trip down. It's made of pewter.
Day 4, our last full day. The weather turned great so was the perfect chance to climb aboard the Yorkshire Wheel.
Here's the best photo from inside the pod. The rest have reflection etc as I was too nervous to move at first.
Enjoyed the ride, back on terra firma to the National Railway Museum. Here's one of the many exhibits.
A pleasant walk followed along the riverside, capturing a pleasure cruise along the way.
...and finally...

I love the way this photo turned out. As the sun shines onto the lamps, the sky behind looks most threatening.
And finally this image sums up the whole of my visit. A view of York from Scarborough Bridge. I can highly reccommend a visit here folks (after Scotland of course !).

Fantastic photos! I'll be visiting Scotland and England next summer. I missed York on my first visit and so I've made it a must for this trip. Thanks for the preview, I'm really looking forward now!
By the way, kilt and accessories look great....nice job!

Thanks for sharing the photos with us. Looks like a good trip even if the weather didn't cooperate entirely with your plans. The new kilt pin is sharp and really stands out on the black kilt.
