    Wearing only an argyll vest?

I am interested in buying an argyll vest, at the time being i can't afford the jacket as well. I have seen some people wearing just the vest and thought it looked quite nice, also seems to be a common pipe band uniform out here in ontario. I was wondering if anybody sees a problem with it, or has any advice. Thank ya kindly in advance.

Save up for the jacket, it's more versatile and practical. OR buy a thrift-store tweed and convert it. Tutorials can be found in the DYI section.

It's not an argyll vest, but I like to wear only a vest and no jacket. It's just my personal preferance and I think it looks darn good!

I would hold off on the vest and save for the jacket. However, that's only my opinion and in the end, it's your opinion that counts.

If you just want the vest, I'd say go up to Burnett's and Struth in Barrie, or Caringorm in Toronto, they both sell ex rentals, you may just be lucky and find a Jacket and waistcoat that way, of course if all you want is the waistcoat they should be able to help you there as well.

I, in fact, get more use out of my vests than my jackets... because of climate. I live in the Great Sonoran Desert, and an average summer temperature where I live is 115F / 36C / 319K.

    Vest advice

Wear your kilt when you go looking for a vest, and make sure that when you try one on that it covers the top two inches of your kilt. This is especially important for big guys (like you) because any "gaposis" not only looks terribly sloppy, it over accentuates your girth and makes you look fat, rather than large.

Personally, I'd save up for the jacket as this will provide you with an over all neater, and slimmer appearance, but the choice is yours.

Yes, wearing an argyll waistcoat is quite common among pipe bands in Texas. I like to wear one myself and have one on in my avatar.
