Edinburgh gathering - 2009
I am sure the recent strength of the dollar, now something like $1.65 to the £1 must make next year's gathering in Edinburgh a much more attractive proposition for many across the pond. Are many thinking of changing their minds and coming now after all? It should be a great occasion.

Aye, I'm planning to attend. The MacCallum Malcolm Clan Society will be having their AGM the following week at our Chief's home Duntrune Castle in Poltalloch. Redshanks has offered to show me more of the Argyll than the typical tourist would see.
But as far as the exchange rate, who knows what it will be in July, 2009!

Mael,
I will also be attending, but Clan Elliot is having their gathering a few days before in Newcastleton. We should find a place to meet and share a pint (or a wee dram) in Edinburgh.

Aye, mate! Maybe the other lads who are going to be there would like to lift a few with us!

I wish I could, however the Canadian dollar has recently plummeted even though it was at par just a few months ago. I am planning on coming over next year, however not for the gathering.

Our dollar may have been on par with the American dollar, but in currancy that means little against other currancies. We have been running about $1.65-$1.85 for a pound sterling the last couple of months. Our first trip over it was $2.56, and fall of 2007 it was $2.25.

We had planned our trip for the end of August, but being out of work for two months has put a damper on life as we know it. But, if things change.........

10 minutes after I posted, I got a call offering me a job. I accepted and start on 3 Nov. Now where is that map of Scotland?

Congratulations, Frank, really great news! Best of luck with the new job.
But will you really have to wait until November to start?
