eBay Kilt from a couple years ago

Anyone remember the kilts that were on eBay in summer '06? I bought two for $50 each. Well, last night it was rather chilly in the house so I pulled one out of the closet rather than my usual USAK. At the end of the evening, I noticed that one of the pleats had come unsewn. Looks like they are put together with a thin monofiliment line. Anyone else had that happen? I think I can repair it with a bit of thread. I didn't expect it to last forever. This i more of a notice of somethign to watch out for if you own one.

"he kilts that were on eBay in summer '06?" doesn't really narrow it down much, but a good rule of thumb is to be cautious of most kilts put on ebay for similar reasons.

I don't see as much of that as I used to, but the "monofiliment" line is actually a "universal" sewing thread, used by outfits who cut corners to make the most money. They don't have to stock thread in colours, as the stuff seems to disappear into the fabric.

Unfortunately it will become brittle with too much flexing and break (maybe from UV degradation), and not last as long as even mercerized cotton thread. You can repair it permanently with polyester thread in the correct colour.
