Nickel or Brass Buckles with Brown Leather?

Having ordered my second kilt, I'm contemplating upgrading my sporran, sporran belt, and kilt belt (Thorfinn and Oconee Leather Works, respectively) and was wondering if there's any concensus on which type of metal to wear with brown leather for day wear? The open buckles are on my current gear are nickel, but I thought I'd check and see what the norm is. Any advice would be appreciated!

I PERSONALLY like brass with brown. However, if you're trying to match existing items that have nickle, you may want to go with nickle.

I think the norm would be brass with brown. I have a two prong, nickle buckle on my brown kilt belt, though. The real problem would probably come from having some brass and some nickle on different parts of the outfit. My kilt has brown and black mixed together, though, so I don't worry too much. Also, have a kilt pin on it that is a combination of silver and gold to tie it together a bit as a theme.

The third, lower buckle on a kilt might be an issue if you are too picky. In my mind, the silver on brown kind of looks colder than with the brass or gold.

The same rules of dress apply to the kilt as apply to ordinary dress: brown shoes, brown belt; black shoes, black belt. Ditto your sporran. As far as buckles go, well, highly polished brass will look better with brown leather. And if you really want to get down to the finer points, your watch should be of the same metal as your ring, and a gentleman should never wear more than two rings: a signet ring and, if married, a wedding band.

I'll add my vote to the brass with brown. Somehow to my eyes, it seems to be a better "fit" Are the kilt buckles brass also?

Although... a very reddish kind of brown might look very good with silver buckles. Just thinking over the possibilities in my mind, after all, some shades of brown go just fine with gray. I think one is called chestnut.
