Oh, seconded!! From someone who officiates kilted weddings. Man, I would have cancelled the wedding and eloped over that. I'd be enraged no matter what the clothing was! If it were the other way around- exchanging pants in favor of a kilt- I would have been enraged! It's not her day! It wasn't her call to make! Good gods! (OK... Rant over...)

HELL YAH!
Wear a Tartan skirt or dress too!
(I still don't forgive my inlaws for forceing us to get married in Ohio instead of Michigan. oh.... the problems we had because of that.... while my dad was dieing, i had to go to SC while she drove many times between Ann Arbor and Dayton, sometimes both ways the same day, when we found a place we loved 10 minutes from our apartment.)

My knee jerk reaction is to go ahead and do it, however upon reflection I would say be the bigger person. There is no reason to perpetuate a Family Feud. My mom and Dad always say "Two Wrongs don't make a Right" something to think about.

I don't want to threadjack, but hey there in Afton - I'm from Rock Springs and emigrated to Denver. I guess I couldn't stand the excitement of the small town. :P
Now as to the question at hand, I say do it!

That actually brought tears to my eyes, for a mother to ruin her daughter's wedding plans like that seems unforgivable - but that is what forgiveness has to have - otherwise it would not require any effort to attain it.
I'd say attend the ceremony in garments your mother would find acceptable - it is after all a solemn occasion with vows made, when the wishes of the bride and groom ought to be held sacrosanct.
However - there is always the reception - maybe a distinctly tartan theme on the tables, with a scottish band, display of Highland dancing outside as the guests arrive, after a well organised diversion to quick change rooms for as many of the guests as can be got in on it.
You get my drift?

YES YES YES, regardless of the kilt aspect, behaviour like that should always be paid back, make sure its in good taste, and make sure she knows it payback and what for. Have fun with it and good luck.

Unbelievable. If my wife's mother did that I would have been tempted to reschedule the wedding and tell all the guests why. I think you need to arrange for your mother's new husband to wear a kilt, wouldn't that be good surprise for her...
