Carrying Sticks
The wonderful photos that McMurdo found and posted caused several of our brethren to comment about the number of men (and boys) carrying sticks. This was--and still is--very common.
I have posted before the photo of my father at the Argyllshire Gathering in Oban in the mid 1930's. Who ISN'T carrying a cromach in this group?!!!

Best regards,
Sandford MacLean

I count 13.
And check how high the kilt pin is on the guy center right with the white check hose.

A very nice photo.
Interestingly, I count only two ghillie brogues. So, an antipathy toward them isn't new.
Also, eight men, a majority it seems, are wearing day plaids.

The guy who looks like he isn't carrying a stick... it's tucked up on his left arm. You can see just a little bit of it.

That is so cool! There's a lot of things I notice. First, most of them are not wearing ghillies. Second, everyone is wearing a Tam or Balmoral. Third is all of the day plaids, and of course there's all those great cromachs!
These guys are what I base my style off of.
