    UK vs US books

I was looking to see if Bernard Cornwell, one of my favorite authors as anything new out
I was pleased to find e has one ready for release in the US
    "Azincourt"
    http://www.bernardcornwell.net/index...ge=2&BookId=49

It will be available in the US in Jan.
but is available in the UK now

If I pre-order from Amazon US the price is $18.47 plus postage
I can order from Amazon UK and the price is 8.54 BP about $13.00 US

Would there be any difference between a UK vs US edition besides the cover?

I can order the one from the UK, pay for airmail shipping and it would work out to the same price plus I would have it 6 weeks earlier

I wonder why the difference in price?
also with Amazon UK the shipping would be free if I lived in the UK

Can't answer your questions, but from experience, the difference between the UK editions and the US are mostly a small matter of some spellings and the binding/covers.

My own impulse would be to go for it now, rather than wait.

Depends on the value of the dollar and pound at the time. Had you checked last May, the price would have equated to about $16.50 before shipping. The pound reached it most recent zenith just about the time my wife and I were visiting... Lucky us.

Are the books the same? Well, probably - but that's not always the case. The US editions of the now classic James Harriot books were essentially comprised of two separate UK titles due to american expectations for books with longer page counts.

The world of publishing is a strange and exotic place!

    Cheers

There may be 1 slight difference...

All the words 'Color' will be changed to 'Colour'.

    Sorry bad joke...

Sometimes the UK/US difference can even creep into the realm of titles.
Cornwell's Book of the Archer (which I found to be pretty darn excellent), was originally published in the UK under the title Harlequin; evidently, it was felt that Americans would associate that word too closely to paper romance novels.

British books are written in British English. American / Australian / Canadian readers should make the appropriate translations.

I've found no significant differences between a UK edition and a US edition, save perhaps the cover.

As pointed out, sometimes the US edition may have some words spelled "American" style, but otherwise there should be nothing added or deleted. That said, I usually prefer getting a UK published book so I can read it with the British spellings.

Also take into account that we Americans are stupid so some references will have to be "dumbed down" for us to understand them.

After all no one here in the states would have had the slightest clue what a "Philosopher's Stone" was.

"Sorcerer's Stone" is so much better
