    Kilted Nordic (Cross country) skiing...

Well, we finally got a decent snowfall on Boise, so I decided to try out some Nordic skiing.
It was very different from downhill skiing, but I loved it and I plan to do more.
I wore my Kilt, of course, and it didn't cause any problems.
(I do have a nice wife who provided me lovely warm Kilt hose for under my gaiters and a nice bonnet.)

I've also included a few other pictures some of the folk here might like.

It took a wee while to get a hang of the skiing at first, but I had a lot of fun.

And before long I was doing pretty darn well!

Boise looks just beautiful covered in snow. In this picture you can just see the foothills in the distance.

Diane and I had a lovely time going to the park.

And even Einar got some snow. Here he is in his snow suit.

The Train Depot looks just beautiful.

And there are icicles on everything.

I've been getting out in the nice, cool weather as much as I can.

And we even got to chase a huuuuge flock of geese in the park.

All in, I am really enjoying living in Boise!

I think my favorite photo (well, aside from the one of you and Diane together of course!) is the last one of you running and chasing the flock of geese

Great photos Arlen! Especially for those of us who don't get to have white Christmases.

    Cheers

It’s great to see you cross country skiing. As a Norwegian this is the sport I grow up with. I have never tried skiing with kilt on, but then again I just started the kilted way of life 3 months ago. I must say I like the skiing pictures best, but I’m Norwegian so….

I am enjoying myself a great deal, Glen. I like snow and it's finally a comfortable temperature for me.
Oddern, I'd never tried it before but my wife and her family have done it for generations. She'd always told me how great it was and I really wanted to try. Seeing a documentary about the Heroes of Telemark and their true story (Not the Hollywood version) made me even more determined to give it a go.

Hopefully we'll see some pictures of you skiing in your Kilt soon!!

    Arlen,

Would that be the Ray Mears' documentary? I wrote BBC some time ago asking that they release it on DVD, to no avail.

There is another Telemark documentary, though:

    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/hydro/

Check with the local public library and see if they could order it for you. I ordered a copy for our college library, and it is very well done.

I must say that the story of Telemark has put the idea of taking up skiing in my heid, but being in Missouri makes it a wee bit difficult!

    Cheers,

    Todd

Cross country skiing is wonderful. I've done it for thirty years, and I'm still not tired of getting up in the mountains and out on skis in the winter.

Great stuff! We still have our cc skis and shoes, but haven't gone skiing since we lived in Callifornia. Miss that. Would love to do that kilted.
