    Merck Manual

When my step mother was in the hospital we were there most of the day and sometimes all night. Now as you may or may not know, siting around at a hospital gives boring a whole new meaning. Well, one night I was there and as a result of too much coffee, was wide awake and bored. After a short search for reading material, I was able to borrow a copy of the Merck Manual . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merck_M...is_and_Therapy from one of the nurses. Ever hear the phrase "Too much info?" Some things are best left unknown, ignorance truly is bliss. Skimming through that book can make one a phobic hypochondriac in no time flat.
Sometimes the cure for boredom is worse than the disease.

    Yep...

Both my sister and step mother are nurses. The nurse magazines are much more interesting.

In the day, I was a paramedic, and my sister a vet. We weren't allowed to sit next to each other at family dinners.

I practically live at the hospital some days (I'm a grief counselor), so my work bag always has my mp3 player and two books to read! Much better than the boring hospital magazines.

The Manual was a last resort, I'd already read the magazines.
My youngest sister is a nurse and I have a cousin that a paramedic. When you add in my being a volunteer chaplain who's seen it all, the conversations often are not for the faint of heart.

I have a huge collection of books on my computer, so I usually have something to read.

Sometimes I go on a novel reading binge, but I also have history binges, and information binges.
