    A Kilt Lives On

As I came across Alan H's sale of his Black Denim kilt I couldn't pass up the opportunity for the price, so I threw the idea to my mother as a possible Christmas gift. Even if it is a little large for my waist, I figured my everyday belt would do a good job of keeping it up and comfortable.

Well, it arrived today and, lo and behold, I was right. It's slightly large but I quite like it. After I tried it on I ironed it and got it looking good as new. It'll certainly be more ironing work than my USAK Casual or SWK standard but it's certainly something I can wear around campus in any weather.

Now, I know you all like pictures, so I had my brother take a few.

a shot of the ironed and dried pleats. There's a little flaring from putting it on again, but it looks good enough for me (plus I don't mind a little wrinkling, that's bound to happen).

And finally a quick shot at the bottom, with my trusty mutant sporran (which my friends have nicknamed Thumper because of the rabbit fur facing)

I'm very pleased with this kilt so far and can't wait to go back to school and wear it regularly, wrinkles or not.

Thanks a bunch Alan H, this will see good use!

Yeah, that's pretty much what my SWK Black Stewart is going through tonight. So is this a kilt that you made, Alan? I get that impression from previous posts. If so, I want one! It looks mighty fine.

This was one I made for myself, just to try 1.) a reverse kinguisse and 2.) bull denim.

The kilt came out well, it has some serious "substance" and "heft" to it, but two things bugged me. A.) I wished I'd made the first "backward" pleat on the right side about 2-3 times deeper to match the big first pleat that lies under the over-apron and B.) being denim, this thing needs a LOT of ironing and wrinkles like mad.

However, the thing is bulletproof, will wear like iron and last a long, long time and honestly it looks pretty darned good when the pleats are all straight. It doesn't have a lot of "swing" to it, though, being denim and having sewn-down pleats.

I ran out of patience with the ironing, so I put it up for sale for cheap to a guy who doesn't have a lot of kilts (or his mom) on the "For Sale" forum. I'm glad it's going to a new home where it'll see a lot of use!

I wore it around the house all day yesterday, sitting and standing, and it held the pleats pretty well as long as I sat in a decent manner with a little extra care taken to how I sat. It'll certainly be manageable and it really is like iron. I'm probably gonna wear it around the house today as well, and, if weather is decent enough, my brother wanted to run out and do some late gift shopping for people, so I may wear it out already, it'll be perfect if the winds pick up later here like they're supposed to.
