    Wedding Casual Kilts (SWK)

Okay. So for my wedding in october 09, I wanted all my groomsmen to wear kilts. I have a marine in my wedding so he will be wearing a standard Leatherneck from SWK. Also all my groomsmen will be wearing thrifty's and standards and I am going with the SWK Heavyweight saffron. I know casual kilts are more commonplace and more accepted this day and age, just wondering if there is something I am missing. Thought it would be cool that all the groomsmen would have a kilt of their own afterwards, and after the belts and sporans and socks so on and so on there are investing quite a bit. I cannot afford rentals so that is out of the question at this point.

There will be no wind, shorts will be worn for the dancing, and we are poor so what is so bad about SWK's as wedding kilts?

Not a blessed thing. Great idea, and the groomsmen will have something cool to remember the occasion by. And you may be helping some new kilties "come out." Nothing wrong with that at all.

Not everyone can afford to deck their wedding party out in 16-oz great kilts. Go for it. Congrats on the upcoming nuptials!

Considering what I have seen a a couple of recent weddings your party will be the epitome of conservative elegance!

As far as this curmudgeonly traditionalist is concerned, there is absolutely nothing wrong with putting your groomsmen in SWK kilts. In fact, I think it's a splendid idea.

I could not have said it better myself. Go for it.

    Dan,

You love this woman and she loves you and it is great that you will be able to be kilted at your wedding, follow your heart and what makes you and her happy. Just make sure to order the SWK’s in advance in case any of the groomsmen are 5’8” or shorter, because the kilts might have to be hemmed.

My thoughts, since that's what you solicited:

I've made no secret, after trial and error, that I am no fan of "acrylic" kilts.
HOWEVER, I honestly think they could serve well at a wedding. In fact, short of rental, I would find it a bit silly to buy your whole party a 16 oz. kilt. The fact is most of them probably won't wear them again.

The true magic of whether it works or not, at least in this case, more strongly lies in the presentation. Make sure your buds, since this will (from what I gather) be their first time in a kilt, know how to wear it properly. Make sure to get the sizes correct, and don't remove basting stitches until you're sure. Look for any oddities in the kilts that could be corrected before the wedding (rogue pleats, loose threads etc.) Make sure they're steamed/pressed nicely before the big day, and I think it would work fine.
Congrats from a couple of 2.5 year veterans!

So, if he's ordering SWKs, that means ordering them at least 12 hours before the wedding. Plenty of time to get the kilts, return any problem articles and get replacements.

Get the SWK kilts and then enjoy the day. When people start getting stressed out about the wedding, just remember that it's about you and your bride joining your lives together. Nothing else really matters.

Congratulations from a 0.5 year vet.
