    Jonesing in a different direction.

I just had to tell someone... I'm in the midst of a separation and didn't realise I needed a goal to go forward with. A personal goal. A big personal goal. Well, I've found one.

What's the goal, you say? I'm going to buy a Porsche 924.

I discovered I can buy one for about what I can sell my '01 Lancer for! I just have to wait a few weeks until I have the money to set it in motion... I can barely wait...

Why not save a little bit more and go for the real version of that car, the 944? I haven't a clue what the price diff is these days but I know there is a WORLD of diff in performance. . . 924 was sold as a VW everywhere but U.S. . . Still a great-looking car in either iteration. Be sure to hook up with an owner's group, maybe even before buying -- they can tell you a LOT about what to look for, what to stay away from. Might even find one for sale on those boards, where you can find out more about that particular car's history.

Speaking as the original owner of a nearly 30 y/o sports car meself (there's a reason I'm Sydnie7), the first-gen Mazda Internet family is the only reason that car is still on the road today!

    Keep us posted!

    Oh I will!

I'm aiming for the 924 for a couple of reasons. Probably the first is that I like the look of the 924 rather than the 944; it seems more "timeless" somehow :-) But in my rummagings, I've found that the 924 has a reputation for being considerably more reliable and much easier to work on. It's also noticeably cheaper and less likely to have been thrashed by an '80s yuppie . The 944 was actually rather a different car than the 924, and both were quite different from the 928, all stable-mates of the time. You can learn a lot from enthusiasts!

I am going to join the local Porsche owner's club. And I've already found a few for sale around Australia, but there's no point in looking further - I simply can't afford it yet. Although I could sell my Lancer and jump in, I have some other debts I have to discharge first. So my earnings will be focused on those for a little while.
