Grandfather in Scots Gaelic

Hi all my oldest daughter is expecting our first grandchild imminately.

My wife is picking what the child will call us, I was thinking I might want to be called in the Gaelic. What is Scots gaelic for grandfather and how is it pronounced.

Seanair

[seanair] nm. g. -ar; pl.+ean, grandfather

Grandfather & Grandmother in Gaelic viz. Seanair ( pro. SHENNAR ) and
Seanmhair ( pro. SHENNVAR )

I have not figured out where to put the accent yet.

Grandfather Sean'air Shenar

I believe the accent is on the first syllable. Gaelic speaking Scots chime in, please.

Do you mean which syllable has emphasis? The first, 'sean'. Seanair is a contraction of seanathair, from sean+athair, literally 'old father'.

'Seanair' (pronounced shen'-er)is the Scottish Gaelic for grandfather.

There is also a Gaelicised spelling for the English word grandfather, which is: Granaidh, but the "dh" at the end has a "y" sound, which I believe would sound more like (gran-a-y).

In 'Scots' rather than Gaidhlig it's also commonly 'Granda' and a Grandmother would be 'Grannie.'

Gaelic speaker here and catching up
Grandfather=gaelic is seanair= say it=shen-er which also means elder my kids call my dad shenni
Grandmother = gaelic is seanmhair say it=shenuver we also say granni
