    Question Can flashes have fringe?

    Just getting ready to make flashes with some surplus tartan using Barbs thread http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/m...x.html?t=32660 as a model.

    ...and my question is: can flashes have fringe?

    I've made several pairs that have "fringes", I suppose. I cut them off square rather than the usual V-cut, straight-stitched about 1/2" from the end then unraveled them to the stitching so there is about 1/2" of free threads. Look fine to me.

    Sure; why not? I imagine they'd end up looking something like the garter ties available from STM.

    I made some denim ones once and beat the heck out of them to get them to fringe up like cut-offs.

    James MacMillan made some... but he added the fringe after knitting them rather than using tartan fabric and pulling the threads out.
    I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
