Kilted with a Big Camera
So ever since I saw my first Canon Digital Rebel I lusted after one. Last year my lovely lady gifted me with one.
This'll probably sound vain, but dang, to me it looks pretty touristy and stupid to be turned out in a kilt and have a big camera dangling around my neck - like at Highland Games.
I wanna have the camera along to take pictures. I just don't wanna look/feel dorky at the same time. Yes, its probably all in my head...
But if I could just come up with an idea for carrying the camera that fit with the Scottish look, or had some sort of a jauntly look (not the camera bag) I think I'd feel a bit better.
Wasn't a problem with the little camera. Fit right into the sporran.
Maybe somewhere someone makes a camera strap with a celtic design....off to google that.
Thanks for any ideas. No biggie though...just my ego.

Just get a bigger lens, and people will think you're an "official" photographer!

beadwork mebby?
I've had some custom beadwork done by a pretty crafty Nez Perce woman, perhaps you could take that big, hurkin' camera strap and have a beaded tartan pattern on it?

Yeah, but you need a bigger lens and change the Canon to say Nikon. THEN you'll look like an official photographer <---- completely said tongue in cheek.

I have a Yashica 35mm and somewhere (I think I am the only one that knows it even is there) I have access to a Yashica TLR, but I don't think I want to go back to film.

Somewhere there has to be a plaid camera strap. There's gotta be. Good luck in your pursuit!
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

Eh. Canon... I'm a Fuji guy myself. Though I've not had the big camera on with the kilt, but my pocket camera does usually fit into the sporran.

Ron,
I'll second the suggestion from Tim Little. Get a Real Big camera bag. There is nothing like screaming "Official Photographer" than a big camera bag and a big honking telephoto lens.
Then glue some Tartan fabric to the Bag. Voila!!!
When you want to take a picture people will actually get out of your way you look so important. Then fiddle with the shot framing, the exposure and light readings. Even if your actually only taking a snapshot with auto setttings.
