Jack of the Wood - Asheville, NC - March 8th
I'm thinking of heading over to Jack of the Wood on Sunday (March 8th) for their Irish Session night around 5pm. Anyone around here want to come, I'm going to be bringing my girlfriend who has never been before. She does play Irish session tunes on the guitar though! I of course will be there wearing my kilt. Hope to see someone else there wearing a kilt!

Sorry..I'll be out of town this weekend. I'll send a PM to BassClefB to make sure he sees this.

Aye! Normally I'd be there anyway, but I've got plans to hang with some friends at their place on Sunday evening already... Let's keep the loop going here though, because I'm at Jack Of The Wood on Sunday nites at least once or twice a month for the session and some kilted pint consumption. Maybe in a week or two all of us can meet up?

I would love to be there, but I can't...I am going to try to make it up there in the next few weekends, maybe I can get up with you guys then.
Will one of you kindly tell Micki and Chad that "Chris O'Skirt" says Hey-Howdy, please?

Well, if there's not going to be anyone else, I'll hold off on going til we can get a few people together. It'll be more fun that way I think!

Chris,
Sadly, Mickey has moved to Wed-Fri-Sat nights. You have to endure bluegrass or jazz to see her these days. Chad still works the Sunday shift, and I always tell him that you said Hi.

Who will be around in the early evening for St. Patrick's day? We should try to put together a hang at Jack Of The Wood for a few hours if folks are keen on it. I'm thinking early... 7pm or so for us working folk to have a few and be home at a respectable time.

Ouch!
Tartan Hiker, did I read correctly that one must "endure" bluegrass and jazz at Jack o' the Wood? That hurts to the bone! Bluegrass came form the traditional musics of the Isles, with a few distinct Americanisms thrown in.
That's like saying that I endured science classes in high school just so I could be in the band. (Or maybe the classes endured me.)

Suzanne, there is really no "list" available. Jack of the Wood Pub hosts a Celtic jam session every Sunday from 5 to 9. It's nothing formal...whoever shows up with an instrument. The quality of the music is almost always excellent as Asheville has a large and vibrant Celtic music culture.
I guess the best thing to do is to check this forum. You're a bit of a drive from Asheville, so if you want to meet up with some of the A'ville kilties you don't want to drive all the way over here and have no one show up! How about you other Asheville boys look at your calendars and let's pick a Sunday evening in the next month or two to have a serious kilt night event.
I'm free this Sunday (Mar.15th) and it's my birthday!
