My St. Paddy's weekend... Dance/DC Parade
Two parts:
(1). Square Dance
(2). St. Patrick's Day Parade in DC
-------------
(1)
So, I went to my club's quarterly Community Square Dance held at a middle school last Saturday. Of course, we had a green-themed dance.
I just made the garter flashes - wool blend, in avocado green. Yum.
Here's me in my dark green reverse-K X-kilt made of woven suede...

This is the pleat shot of this X-kilt.

Thanks Glen. I think that color green will go well with IoS, yes? I can make a pair for you.

DC's huge St. Patrick's Day Parade:
First my kilt -- I chose my denim 7.6 yard trad-design (no trad fabric) to go out in because it was COLD and drizzly! ugh -- it was so NOT-parade-weather.

That's a pipe band in green and Irish Saffron kilts --my first time seeing one (let alone a whole band of them!! sweet)
The flags on the poles are the DC Flag (2 red stripes, 3 red stars above), flag of Ireland, and the US...
I got there by Metro. My first time ever wearing a kilt in the real public. I was feeling a little anxious but then again, I had a reason - the Parade, if anybody asked me.
At the metro, a nice black lady asked me I have Irish blood in me and I said no. She seemed a little disappointed, but I think she was extra nice when she said -- "a lot of blacks have Irish blood in them." I think she was giving me the benefit of the doubt - which I appreciate, because I don't look like I'd have Irish in me. (Although I have another stock answer about Irish blood and all which I will censor and not put here...LOL)...
At the transfer point, I was waiting for another Metro train -- another black lady approached me and complimented me on my kilt, particularly it being denim. We had a nice discussion. While that was going, I could see from my peripheral vision that a group of people had almost formed a circle around listening.... When I said that I made the kilt myself, she was even more impressed and asked if made other things.... She asked for my biz card. That wasn't so bad for my first outing in the bigger public area...
