    Doolander bonnet for Normandy

    Dear friends,

Soon we shall be going to Normandy for the National Tartan Day 2009 and pilgrimage to the Normandy beaches of Omaha and Juno.

I therefore “needed” a blue colour “doolander” bonnet to match my RCAF kilt and battle jacket. Shazammm ! Lady Chrystel made me one.

Here are a few photos for you to enjoy.

    Best,

    Robert

    That's a very interesting and--of course--well made bonnet.

But what's doolander mean? I even tried to google it.

    Sharp look!

And, a small world. A friend's father came ashore on point as a combat engineer for the 4th Infantry over on Utah Beach. A young Navajo from Tuba City, Arizona back then. They put him out front as a sort of scout since he was an Indian. Fortunately, he survived the ordeal, came home and raised a family. He passed on a couple years ago. He liked to point out that not all Navajos were USMC Codetalkers in War 2.

Thank you for remembering the men who clashed on those beaches.

That's very nice headgear, and I echo Ron in my appreciation of your honoring of those that fought and died on those beaches.
