Which Virginia tartan do you like the best?

I am trying to figure out which tartan to make my next kilt with. One of the finalist is one of the Virginia tartans.

I am wondering, since we are all Virginians here, which one do you guys like the most and why?

What are the choices? The Scottish Tartans Authority only lists Virginia (4060), VMI (2402) and Virginia Tech (7663). I don't care for # 4060. Checking the state website symbols page there does not seem to be an official Virginia tartan.

There's also the West Virginia tartan which I find even more handsome than the Virginia tartan. (pithy comment deleted at the source)

I also found one for the Virginia Quadricentennial (4468).

Can't say as how I like any of them but between the Virginia Quadricentennial (4468) and the Virginia (4060), I'd have to go for the Virginia.

Not being a graduate or even an attendee at VMI or Tech, I'd hesitate to wear either one of those, and likewise for West Virginia since I've only visited that state.

William and Mary has a tartan (6522) to go along with its arms (granted sometime before 1776, one assumes).

I'd prefer to see it using more of the green and gold. Still, as an alumnus and a townie at that, I wouldn't mind wearing it.

We need to have an official State tartan. Perhaps Senator Jim Webb could champion the cause.

He might at that. He is very proud of his Ulster Scots heritage (aka Scots-Irish).

A good idea, but remember that in order for a tartan to be officially recognised, you would need to enlist the support of a state legislator, since it would be the Virginia legislature, and not the US Congress, that would recognise a tartan as the "state" tartan.

Aye, Todd! As I was sitting on I-95 this morning this occured to me. Now who would be a good state senator to approach?
