Question about the question?
Okay, I've used the search function and not found much help. Forgive me if this is rude to ask, as I am new here.
I am just going to assume that the question is "what are you wearing under your kilt?" or some variation.
My question, in regard to "the question" is this? What does one wear under ones kilt? What is the tradition, is it a myth? Keep in mind, total newbie and not meaning to offend anyone here. I checked to see if there was a sticky, but I haven't seen one on here.
Thanks

"Boots and socks!" Seriously, whatever you want. "tradition" is "regimental" I suppose, but all depends on what you are comfortable with and what the situation is. Plenty of folks wear underwear all the time, and there is NOTHING wrong with that. Still better than pants! Others prefer to skip that and let the air circulate freely. windy day or lots of kids around? i'll usually put on some boxers. No right answer here.

Cheers! Here's a bit that will help.
In the Search bar, type: "worn under the kilt"...and it will pull up quite the listing of question and answers.
Enjoy.

Boxers, then shoes and socks.

When given a choice, most people will choose.

Nothing at all. If underwear is worn under, there might me a bump in your kilt. Remember that the kilt is hanging straight down. Of course, some have bigger problems with this than others.

I will honestly say that to make sure noone can complain at work and I offend noone while walking, I wear something under there. Now at home is an entirely different set of rules. Some days I do good to wear anything at all.

Thats why I got a SWK thrifty, easy to toss on if I need to go past the poorly covered windows. Many of the same benefits.

Something that has been covered many times.
It's unlikely that the original highlanders wore underwear and military tradition dictated that soldiers should not wear anything underneath either, hence the term "regimental."
Clearly the Victorian revival made the wearing of "long johns" difficult as they would have shown and I am not sure there were shorter alternatives available at the time.
But nowadays it's likely to be a personal choice though to preserve the sense of mystery one should never confess!
Personally I say mystery be damned!
The term "commando" is inappropriate for the kilt as this is to to with not wearing something under trousers or other bifurcated garments.
