Why all the negative comments on Flat Caps?
Ok, I've been noticing more and more people keep saying stuff like "Yeah, and he was wearing a flat cap with his kilt. HAHAHA" and I'll admit I'm pretty lost on this. I wear my flat cap all the time, both with my kilt and non-kilted. I also wear a cowboy hat and my kilt from time to time. I've seen people wear top hats, turbans, baseball caps, and bandanas, but for some reason there seems to be people laughing when a flat cap is worn with a kilt.
I just need to know whether or not I'm the blunt end of a joke that I'm unaware of. I still intend to wear whatever hat I want, no matter what anyone says, but I'd like someone to please fill me in if possible.
I'm not that offended by all the comments, I more just want to know why people keeping pointing it out, in what seems like a negative way.
Here's a picture of me in my kilt and flat cap, just so you can see

Agree to disagree!
So what was a heated debate in those couple of threads has now become a source of amusement and gentle ribbing between our rabble.
End of story!
PS: Just don't mention tweed bucket hats and kilts or poor Jock Scot will keel over!
LOL. Ok, I was hoping that it was something like that. I definitely don't want this to turn into a heated argument, I was just trying to find the source of all the comments, because I'd rather not be the punchline of a joke, unless I know the joke. Now that I know, all is well with the universe, and I'll continue to wear my flatcap.
We can keep this thread open though for a bit, just to hear some more comments on it, but if at any point people start to argue over what's ok or not ok, we can just close it up.
Thanks Jaime.

So way back at the beginning of this thread Ayin McFye had a question...

And a fellow named Panache should have answered...

If I may suggest to the Ladies and Gentlemen of XMTS that this subject like white hose has been debated enough and now it is time for us all to agree to disagree.
Does that sound like a good plan to you Ayin?
Cheers

Agreed. I've got my answer, and this has definitely gone on long enough. I thank everyone for all their input, and like Jamie has said, some of us will just have to agree to disagree.
Over the years, I've learned a lot about most of you, and one of the biggest things that I've learned is that although we ask for advice sometimes, we are all adults and will still do what we please regardless.
I will still wear my flatcap, because I believe I look good in it. If someone doesn't like it, well that's their right. I wear kilts and its accessories for myself, not for anyone else.
Thanks again. Feel free to close it up.
Cheers!

Well no less an august personage than Rocky Roeger (who recently placed in the top 1,000,000 sexiest kilted men in America*) would agree with you an Ayin.
But Jock Scot (who recently placed in the top 1,000,000 sexiest kilted men in Scotland*) would not.
So there you go!
Cheers
Jamie
*They were both somewhat vague about where exactly they placed

First of all, that survey of sexiest kilted men in ameirica was from several years ago and has not been repeated so that data may not be valid today.
Second of all, whoever said there were even 1,000,000 sexy men in Scotland, let alone 1,000,000 kilted ones? ;) Maybe if you count the kilted xmarks tourists.
Ayin, it was a very interested if not heated discussion that went on for several days, so I am surprised you did not catch it. As Jaime says, we have all agreed to disagree, and it has become the new standard for giving someone a poke metaphorically whenever we each get a chance, so hearing small sideways comments about flatcaps will likely continue for some time. I for one have several in solid and tartan materials, and wear them regularly, but will likely choose to leave them in the suitcase should I return to Scotland kilted in the future. I still find it interesting, though why so many scottish highland wear shops list them among their headwear and in literally thousands of tartans if no scots are buying them. Are there really that many of us ignorant tourists around? ;)
