Kilt Sighting today at Jo-Ann Fabrics & a good day kilted

It's always good to be out and about and see someone else kilted. Usually that only happens when I'm out with the rabble, or in the usual places that we would expect to see kilts -- Highland Games, etc.

This afternoon I accompanied my wife to the Jo-Ann Fabric store. She's looking at embroidery sewing machines. (She's a very crafty person -- witness the kilt hose that she has knitted.) We also had to pick up some Velcro for a certain X-Kilt under construction (my construction). As we were waiting to get the Velcro measured, I see a man in a Utilikilt shopping with his wife. We spotted each other and gave each other a thumbs-up. It's good support another kiltie. So, some shoppers at Jo-Ann got not only to see one kilted man, but two.

A woman came up and asked if I played the bagpipes. Never fails. I told her that I'm learning. She related a recent positive experience at a family funeral where a piper was present.

This was also another first in wearing a kilt while working. This morning and early afternoon, I was on a consulting job with a church board in Scottsdale. I always dress professionally on consulting jobs. Since I haven't worn trousers since breaking my foot (http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...x.html?t=47504), I just went ahead and wore a kilt. Of course, my broken foot and the kilt became a conversation point. And, we identified the Scots in the room.

All in all, a good day. The way I look at it, the more people see men in kilts the better. It will also encourage more men, who might be hesitant, to wear the kilt. This was my fourth kilt sighting in the past year, just out and about.

PS -- I've been kilted everyday now at my part-time job at a church in central Phoenix since I broke my foot on April Fools' Day (some irony there). There is a day school with 500 students with the church. So there are now 500 students, plus staff and parents who are seeing me regularly in a kilt. There was a Hispanic mother who asked in the school office about the man in a collar and a skirt! They explained the cultural heritage to her. It works well as the school is very big on cultural diversity. They are getting a lesson in Celtic heritage.

That's good; glad you met up with someone else wearing a kilt.

I just happen to go to Joann's this after noon, too. I wasn't wearing a kilt, but one of the people working there and I talked about kilts, and hair canvas. I was getting buttons for a jacket. They have some nice buttons there.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Hey Spartan, if you ever to get my part of the Valley, let me know. I'll be sure to look for you! My wife is also a frequent shopper at Joann's so who knows, maybe some day we'll cross paths.
