    The Joy of Kilting

Is kilting still FUN for you?

So many of us seem to be so swept up by kilting that we wind up choosing to move into the more demanding areas of the sport. We begin to sew our own kilts, or become craftsmen creating all kinds of kilt accessories, or we volunteer to help on the kilt boards and clan associations, or dive into learning traditions and heraldry.

    All well and good.

But is kilting still FUN for you?

Do you enjoy the feel of the pleats swishing as you walk?

Have you come to love the feel of the wind dancing in your pleats?

Do you enjoy the smiles of appreciation from elders - and the look of wonderment from a small boy seeing his first kilt?

    Do you dance kilted?

Does showing up at a highland games or a kilt night and seeing so many other kilted men bring joy to your heart?

Does an unexpected encounter with another kilted man bring a smile to your face and instant friendship?

Does just the act of strapping on a kilt brighten your day?

Do you still have that first spark of Wow!!

What's FUN for you about kilting?

Kilting has become a part of who I am now. I used to only wear it on a day off here and there, but then found myself in a kilt more and more. Now I wear it every moment I can, relishing in the feeling of just comfortable. I have yet to run into anyone here in West Michigan in a kilt, but I don't go out much either. Even right now, I am anxiously waiting for the post truck to pull up with my newest two kilts, desperate to put them on and run around the house, even if only for the few minutes I can before I have to change into my work clothes.

Kilting is most fun for me and I am so glad I have a kilt (or four).

    :ootd:

Putting on a kilt still puts a smile on my face. Even though I'm unemployed, I still look up kilts and tartans that I want and battle with myself on whether or not to order it (the answer is always no, of course). I didn't get myself a birthday gift yet (it's been a month), and I am going to get myself a "Finally Getting A Job" gift too whenever that should happen - one of those gifts to myself will be a kilt for sure.

I've started a tradition of being kilted for my birthday (my biggest problem is not wearing a kilt because I live with family, and one family member doesn't approve). So I wear a kilt on my birthday (right at the beginning of spring) to get myself to wear one regardless of anyone's opinions. So the kilt is actually a part of my birthday celebrations.

The "fun" thing that I think about most is my design ideas for a kilt I want to make myself.

I love the feeling of walking around in a kilt. I enjoy talking with people that spot me in it and have something nice to say. I simply enjoy how I feel when kilted.

I went out with a friend and his girlfriend for my birthday, and they had no idea I was wearing a kilt for the first 4 hours or so, and when they finally realized they expressed that it was "cool" and she immediately tried to convince him to get a kilt. I started to join in convincing him but after a sentence that conversation got interrupted - but I'll work on it. I enjoyed the experience of bringing something "new to them, but old to me" to my friends.

To answer your question, yes. Kilting is still fun for me.

It was a Utilikilt LOL. Whenever I wear a UK, it seems to be like camouflage, only very few people notice them. Most of the crowd is too caught up in thinking everything is normal to notice that someone isn't wearing pants.

Kilting is still fun for me. I just don't get to wear them as much as I like. Going into the schools for observations requires me to correspond to the schools dress code and because many of the university students consider tank tops, shorts, and flip flops to be appropriate wear in the classroom, I don't push the issue. Have to know what battles to fight and when.

Donning the kilt takes me back in time, the era when people cared about what they looked like when out and about. I very much dislike the ripped jeans and T-shirt, I don’t know how this became the norm but I wish it would go away.
I love walking down the street and people doing a double take to see what they just saw. The question and comments of the young people who seem to be more tolerant than people of my own age, and of course the attention of the young ladies (my wife is of a different opinion on that aspect). Over all just the feel of masculinity that the kilt gives, the swagger that one has whilst kilted and the freedom that you feel it is just indiscernible.

Emphatic yes to all, except the dancing. I wouldn't inflict that on the unsuspecting public... and not because of the kilt...
