Ocean's Apart at Scots of the West Valley

Last Thursday, Scots of the West Valley met for dinner, discussion of club changes and to hear Ocean's Apart sing some traditional ballads.
This is a photo of 'smise before departing.

I wish I had Hamish's venue for photo taking, but alas this has to do.
I am wearing a USAK casual in the American Heritage tartan, a Buzz Kdder sporran (made in Bisbee, AZ, but also from USAK- thanks Rocky) and drove over in my new Kia Sportage that I purchased after the last event- a whisky tasting, which I reported upon elsewhere.

Dinner was fantastic, as always, at least to this common sewer of foods!

Ocean's Apart is made up of Steve Colby from Ohio and John Good from Wales. The songs they sang included Dougie MacLean's Caledonia, MacPherson's Rant, Rose of Allendale, Robbie Burn's Green Grow the Rashes. John played the Welsh Pipes on a number of songs- too bad I didn't get a picture of that.

The only problem with the evening was that Steve was wearing MY SPORRAN- how embarassing
    The house was packed-

Not many kilts that night, but a lot of plaid among the women. The Valley is starting to warm up and I imagine folks didn't want to get overheated in wool.

One more dinner in May and a Kirkin', then the Scots of the West Valley will take a break until fall. I'll post info as it comes to me.

Can almost hear the music through the photos. Thanks for this post.

Is there a way we can all chip in and help the poor guitarist afford a pair of purple Lewis kilt hose to wear with his Isle of Skye tartan kilt though??

Sounds like a lovely evening. I have heard Irish pipes, but can't say that I've heard Welsh pipes. Do they sound like the Highland pipes, or more like the Irish pipes?

The pipes had a single drone and the cantor lookedto be made of a horn- maybe goat? They sounded closer to Scottish than Irish. More than that I cannot say, I am no expert in these things.

Next time I run into him, I'll extend that offer.
