Kilts and Vehicles pics from Tuesday

A few pics from earlier in the day, prior to the Preston kilt meet.

In the morning I visited Stobart Group's Carlisle depot. This is the logistics company which owns the airport which I fly from and where I also volunteer at the aviation museum. During my visit I got to explore the driving cab of this brand new Volvo FH12. Do any xmarkers do kilted trucking?

I had lunch on the train from Carlisle to Preston and then in the afternoon I visited the British Commercial Vehicle Museum which is situated in part of the old Leyland bus and truck works in the town of Leyland which is just a five minute rail trip from Preston. Here I got photographed beside this braw 1956 coach, its a Leyland Tiger Cub with Burlingham Seagull coachwork which ran with Ribble Motors of Preston.

There was a World War I diorama which featured this 1917 Leyland R.A.F. lorry, built to War Ministry specification. The kilted figure adds a nice touch.

This was a custom built vehicle by Leyland Motors in 1982 as a Special Papal Transport, which became better known as the Popemobile and was used to transport Pope John Paul during his visit to England, Wales and Scotland in 1982. He travelled in this vehicle behind bullet proof glass.

Finally a shot taken aboard the Popemobile.

Interesting pictures Alex - maybe a white kilt for the Popemobile though?

Thanks for posting those great pics. The 1956 coach (bus over here...) is really especially beautiful. Are any of the vehicles in running condition?

Love the Ribble Motors bus! Thanks for the photos.

Just to jump on the "think they're clever" comment bandwagon: your waistcoat in first pic doesn't really coordinate with the tartan. . . ;o)

Alex, you always manage to take us along on trips that we might otherwise never know of or take the time to savor. Thanks, and great pictures.

Great pictures Alex. Glad you had a good time down our neck of the woods. You'll be the envy of many a "Stobbart Spotter" with that first picture!!
