BHS Prom 2009
Our Junior Class invited me to be part of the 2009 Senior Prom. It was great to be asked AND be able to go and participate in the festivities. It was a lot of fun to see the students really all dressed up ( they really look good when they are all cleaned up), to see the pairings of students and to listen to what they call music. The costs for the students were astounding: $65 each for a stretch limo ride, $175-200 for a tux for the guys, God knows how much for the young ladies hair to be done and their gowns had to cost a pretty penny also. Not to mention the before prom dinner. After prom the students went to a school/parent sponsored party where the students could win cash, prizes, and scolarships to name a few awards. The after prom is meant to keep the kids off the streets and roads and to prevent them from abusing drugs and alcohol. I made it til 10:00 P.M. and started to fade fast after that. They stayed up until late the next day and split up into after prom parties at designated homes with parental supervision.
The music had a rather "TRIBAL" beat to it and the dancing was rather....close. I did not enjoy the music but the Prom was worth going to. On the way home I picked up a station from Grand Junction that was playing; Stairway to Heaven, American Woman and a bunch of The Who (my kind of music).
I got dressed up in my IOS, a light green shirt, a nice neck tie, the green Black Watch hose that Puffer found up in Canada, and my good Sporran. I got lots of compliments from students and parental chaperones, and a couple of invites to dance (whew, I turned them down because I felt my crutches would get in the way).
All duded up for Prom

My school's prom was last saturday (5/2). Some of the girls' dresses were in the $400-600 range, and then hair, nails and possibly pro make-up job and it can easily be closer to $700-800. I don't understand it. When I was a student I didn't understand it.
Were you invited as a special guest, or do the juniors have a custom of inviting certain faculty? Or is it because you're the coolest teacher on the hall and they wanted to rub it into the seniors' faces that they have to leave you in a few weeks, but the current juniors get to bask in your glory for another year?

I chaperoned my school's prom on Saturday night. Turned out in full formal jacket, bow tie, and X-Marks kilt. Fun time (but the after-prom outing with a gang of faculty members was the real hoot!)
I may be able to scrounge up some photos...didn't bring my own camera.

Cool. BTW: good to see that you're no longer equipped with the knee brace.

Nice look. Good to see the school and the parents working together to keep the kids safe after the prom.
