i saw this a wee while ago and thought that it was a nice thing to do for your kilt maker ,but im not too sure on his choice of kilt mind you

Certainly a nice gesture but...

I like the idea of a linen kilt jacket (especially for the weather here) but a linen kilt?...can't imagine you'd be able to find the pleats for all the wrinkles.

I agree totally with KF Carter. I remember reading a movie script once where the description of the main character stated "(name) is a shark in human form. His apartment is the epitome of what bad taste with unlimited wealth can buy."

But then again, there is no arguing taste, is there

Actually guys, linen CAN work well in a kilt - especially in the kilt suit. I have seen several of Howie's suits made in this fabric, although not in white, and although they might require a little more maintenance than, say, woollen ones they are very smart. I have five kilt suits by Howie but, alas, none of them in linen - yet!

Howie and his wife invited me to the party last week but sadly I was unable to travel north to attend. I have been told though, that my photo appears on Howie's 'Wall of Fame' in his new premises! I'll be there in July to check it out.

I must go in for a look. I think he has definitely made a good move getting well away from the "tartan tat" on the Royal Mile. Sadly all the shops there now get tarred with the same brush and seem to be dumbing down to compete.

And with his $$$$$$$$$$ wrinkles would be the least concern.

Don't be put off by the "To Let" signs. It is actually quite an up and coming little street with small shops and bars and for anyone who doesn't know it it is between George Street and Queen Street.

I went in and, yes, Hamish's photograph is indeed there on the wall. Two of them in fact. He has a sale on at the moment so I would advise Hamish to get in there as soon as possible as I am sure prices will be back to normal by the July invasion. There was some very nice stuff on the rails but I managed to make an exit without purchasing. It must be my Edinburgh thrift that saved me!

From now until mid-to-late October I'm in linen or linen/silk blends most of the time that I'm not kilted and the pants are hopelessly wrinkled an hour into any given day... lots of steaming in between cleanings to battle the wrinkles to a draw. Fortunately the rumpled southern lawyer look is pretty much the summertime norm here so it's fine.

On the other hand, I've been happily amazed at how immune my tank is to wrinkles under those same conditions so I can't help but wonder if linen kilt pleats would perform as well.
