Neat-O
Well I have done a few small things charity wise. I have a Diabetes walk this fall I plan to do kilted, and much more to come!

As many of you know I am a vollenteer Docent at the Royal BC Museum.
Here I am in in "The Pole Gallery" giving one of my talks.

When I go into the Museum I am usually greeted by "Here's Steve in his swooning attire".

I volunteer almost everyday in a variety of different positions at my children's school. My favorite one is without a doubt as a library assistant.
So there are 600 elementary school kids in Northern California that are aware of and accept the kilt as no biggie
I did make a bit of a splash yesterday as I wasn't feeling too well and had to help out a our Spring Faire, so I dressed in dockers and a polo shirt.
Cheers

but seriously, Jamie, good on you for volunteering at your children's school. It's not only great for the school, it's great for your kids to see you doing it.

I think this is what you really meant to say:

I walked the NAMI Walk kilted, but the comment I got most often was, "Love the get-up!" Something about the phrase "get-up" got under my skin. The morning was saved by a nice older lady who came over, extended her hand and introduced herself as "Carol Morfitt, Clan Murray." I knew her comments would a little more...enlightened.
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

Perhaps they meant nothing offensive, but it has always bothered me, too. Something about the phrase makes me think the speaker considers the garb of the listener to be a "costume" and not a "real" outfit.
