Back in Iceland
I'm back in Iceland for a couple weeks of field work and thought I'd post some pics. It's not all geology, though! I just finished laying out a kilt this evening for one of you XMarkers at a table in the place we're staying, and I could turn my head and look out the window at Hekla volcano. What a place!
A bit if a cold, rainy field day:

A long trek across remote country:

It's without a doubt one of my favorite places on Earth. The landscape is just so exotic, and there are so many remote places where you could tromp around for days on end without seeing a soul.

Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

Barb,
"Exotic" doesn't quite cover it. This looks to me like the landscape of some other world!

The place we're working has a bit of a Lord-of-the-Rings feel to it, that's for sure!

In the scary scenes, maybe. And why are you walking around where there are no souls but your own?

Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

Because that's where the interesting geology is, of course!!
It must be neat to be so far north so close to the solstice.
We were here on the solstice, which is always a treat. And it's definitely light enough out all night to do anything you'd want to do, including go hiking. But I pretty much wear myself out during the day and haven't seen 1 a.m. since we've been here except to open one eye, look out, and say, yep, it's still light out.

Wow. In the picture Panache quoted, it's eerie how far the landscape goes on...and how small the people are in the photo.
Thank you for sharing your trip with us.
