Dumb mistakes you've made as a piper
What are some mistakes you've made that caused you to smack yourself (or something more solid)? Today I discovered that I had stuck my chanter into my blowstick stock, causing the reed to be destroyed by the moisture control system. That was actually a really good reed too.

Blew the chanter right out of it's stock once!
Went nuts trying to figure out why I couldn't keep up, no dropped reeds, tight drones, etc. Didn't zip the bag closed!! Really!
Take it you have a Moose valve?

Nope, just a simple metal tube that sticks up in the stock - the moisture condenses on the tube and doesn't drain into the bag.

This is my biggest nightmare for a lot of things. My wife looked at me like I was crazy when I made us unpack all of our SCUBA gear from the dive that was scratched in order to repack it for the dive in the morning. Wouldn't want to get out into the ocean only to discover I'm missing something important.

Whatever happened to that quarry down on the other side of Silar City? Had you ever been down there? I heard, at one time, they filled it in!

Never heard of it. We dive a quarry in Lillington and off of Wilmington.

pipe goofs...
3 things come to mind:
1. I remembered the pipes, but forgot the chanter.
2. Had a rubber cork in the chanter stock to blow and tune drone reeds, then forgetting it is in there and jammed the chanter reed into it...destroying the reed.
3. (just after #2 happened)...didn't have a backup reed to replace the one I just crushed.
Lesson learned on #2...I switched to a white rubber stopper....and always have a backup reed.
