I hate things that hang from my waist
For some reason I don't care for belts or sporan's around my waist. My solution to carry some of the things I need is simply the rubberband. Twist it around several time's the object and put it between you kilt aprons and you are good to go. It rarely moves and unless you are doing handstands it won't fall out. Here is a couple of examples-Lighter and wallet wrapped in a rubberband-
Between the apron's-
Great for causal-with shirt out and with a pull over.

To my eyes the kilt is not a kilt without a sporran. That is a handy tip though.

Holy Utility Belt, Batman!
The spirit of the Declaration of Arbroath (6 April 1320) abides today, defiantly resisting any tyranny that would disarm, disperse and despoil proud people of just morals, determined to keep the means of protecting their families and way of life close at hand.

Now that is something else, good show.
I'll stick to my sporran though, I wear the kilt, not the skirt.

I believe we should each have our own way, as for me I will keep my sporran.

I'm in this camp- but that is indeed a great idea.

I'm puzzled as to the meaning behind the above. Is the suggestion that not having a handbag sized leather er.. bag, tied round the waist and dangling down makes the kilt somehow less of a kilt ?
I didn't realise that a hierarchy exists...

Well now you know! It is not a hierarchy thing at all, but many are of the opinion that no sporran equals no kilt. There are recognised exceptions though, such as highland games events.

Jock- question for you, then. I don't like having the sporran hanging at my crotch for every day wear. It gets in the way of things, like when I sit at my desk, or when I drive, etc. I wear a dark ages style leather bag that attaches directly to the belt, and I wear it on my hip. As this is an ancient style, would it be looked at as acceptable for modern attire?
Here are 2 pictures, one close up, and one showing an overall outfit:
Forgive the moccasins. I wear those when I camp/hike/do any sort of outdoors activity. This picture was taken on a camping trip. Those mocs are comfortable and breathe like you wouldn't believe! I love the things. So- what say you to my solution to the hanging sporran issue being discussed here?

I went to a ren fest and bought myself a mug frog for that exact purpose. It works great with a Coleman cargo clip- the one that looks like a climbers clip, but is made of aluminum. And as a matter of fact, you can see it in the picture of my daughter and I.

I am the last person to ask about modern kilt matters! But you asked a reasonable question that requires a honest reply. Before I go any further, I must say that, what and how any one wears their clothing is entirely down to the individual and most certainly, it is not down to me!
However, I have my likes and dislikes! For starters I do not consider the modern kilt to be a kilt. I don't know how else to describe them politely though. You are obviously very happy how you wear the bag on your hip and that is fine and it does the job of a sporran. It is not a sporran though, therefore what you are wearing, to my eyes, is not a kilt. Others will no doubt dis-agree with me, rather loudly!
I rather expect that you will not be too surprised by my answer and I mean no dis-respect to any one.
