    Modified Stillwater

Well, here it is! Jerry beamed it into my hot little hands within 7-days of ordering it; and today, I got to take it out for a spin... I measured between sizes; so, I took the advice of my brothers here (with Stillwater Kilts experience) and ordered a size-up... This is the result:

In total, I just ripped out the seams that held outer-apron buckles (and sealed up their original locations---since the tabs are sewn into the pleats)

I then opened up the inner-apron, and removed the belt-tab, sealed up the apron seam, and then tabbed the belt back on top of the apron 1.25" away from the apron-edge.

With that done, I could get an exact measurement of where I needed to set the outer-apron buckle-tab, and opened up the seam 2 pleats further back (just enough to insert the tab) from its original location, and and sewed it closed. I don't fancy double-buckles or idle-work; so, I didn't put the 2nd buckle back on.

Then I ironed the pleats before taking the factory basting stitches out, and WHOALA!

After a few more hours of yard-work, I'm kickin' back with a finger of Dalwhinnie ;)

Yep, the buckle tabs are sewn on with the fell stitching on one end, and the straps are between the facing.

    Glad It went well.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

The buckle looks good. Is it just me, or is your apron actually tucked into a pleat about halfway down?

Yeah, I had been doing a fair amount of squatting (so as not to flash the neighbourhood) and it seems I have created an 'apron-eating' pleat. ;-)
In retrospect, I might have left the outer top buckle just where it was and narrowed the outer apron by 1.25" so that the buckle and tab met up...

On second thought, I think I need to fix that immediately... Thanks for picking up on it Erisianmonkey. I'll re-post once it's done.

Thanks, I wish I could take all the credit myself; but, I had help. Perhaps I'll be a bit more intrepid next time.

Alright; so I chickened out... I took my kilt to a tailor for these amending alterations I've committed to (principally because I didn't trust myself to re-do the entire outer-apron's fringe-seam); and I just had to reject their work... When they moved the right hip's buckle back to its original position, they sewed it in upside-down; and, then they took the front apron back twice as far as they needed to... Grrr. If you want something done right...

    * Ok, I've re read the thread a few times. Hope you can put that fringed edge back the way it was. It's too confusing for me to understand what was going on without seeing the picture, so I'm backing out of the discussion. *

Essentially, I shouldn't have moved the right side buckle in the first place... By doing so, I brought the outer apron too far around me, so that it tended to get caught in the pleats. I should merely have narrowed the outer apron the same amount that I moved the inner-apron belt-tab rightward. Hopefully, it will be done in time for the Glengarry Highland Games...

    Talking $50.00 Later...

Well... this is the outcome... It just took a professional Chinese seamstress to fix the old biggoted white-lady's mistakes!
I missed wearing it to the Glengarry Highland Games because of the old bat's carelessness but at least I'll have it for the Lanark County Highland games in a couple weeks when the family will be with me.

I'm glad all has turned out for the best; but, now my Stillwater is worth $250.00CAD

My wife is knitting me some kilt hose! She has the yarn (a cotton-soya blend) and my measurements along with her copy of "Kilt Hose and Knickerbocker Stockings"... I'll keep track of the process here in another thread.
