Antler Sgian Don't
I'll be travelling by plane for a wedding soon and I don't want to check my luggage. This means, I'm in and out faster, I won't loose my luggage and I'll save $20/per checked bag but it also means I can't very well pack my sgian dubh in my carry-on. (I'm planning on going kilted at the wedding.)
At first I thought I'd try my hand at making something but I live in a small studio in a city with no (known) access to wood/metal/etc working tools and if I had them, well... just picture a very small studio and you'll get my point at how impossible it is for me to creative at this point and make something.
So I found a cheap, good looking alternative on ebay (under $10 including shipping) that I just got in the mail today. It looks sturdy, feels good and will totally pass muster for what I'm looking for. I know it's not the most ideal, and I'd love to be able to bring my own sgian dubh but airline security is airline security and this actually saved me $10 in checked luggage fees.
So in case anyone's interested, here's the link: Antler Bottle Opener
Cheers,
Noah

OUCH! That's pricey. I was doing various searches on ebay for "antler" or "stag" and "opener" along with "vintage" and various other terms - but maybe (knock on wood) there's one in Canada for you!

Once reservations have been made at a hotel, I've shipped items that I couldn't normally bring on a plane to the hotel under my name and had them hold it for me untill I arrived. Cost a few extra dollars but If you really need your items, it's a lot cheaper then checking bags.

Amazing I had been looking for a sgian brew to carry on me while at work or the pub. Very Liberal work place, they would freak out if they saw a knife in my sock.

Very cool, Noah. I may have to go ahead and get one.
I have my own workshop out in the shed but no antlers or bottle openers left. This might be just the thing to personalise.
Thanks for pointing it out.

The handle appears to have relatively deep texturing which could rub uncomfortably on your leg. A standard sgian dubh handle has a smooth side to prevent this from happening.
